Here before you is all-new material from Analog Players Society. A follow up to APS’ Hurricane Season in Brooklyn and digital EP, CYK to JFK, this 7” single release is a sneak peak into the collective’s next highly anticipated full-length album. APS’ last two releases caught the attention of underground to mainstream press and radio, from Wired Magazine, OkayPlayer, Afropop Worldwide, KCRW, OkayAfrica, to NPR’s Fresh Air, who declared APS’ music as “the most successful reggae-style tracks in years.”

This is jazz with a heavy dose of skank. Just as American popular music of the time influenced Jamaican ska of the mid-to-late 60’s, APS pays homage to the tradition by reviving an 80’s pop, smash hit, Jody Watley’s “ Looking For a New Love”. Made in the style of late 60’s ska mixed with late 70’s dub technology all highly crafted for the modern DJ. 4 minutes turned into an unforgettable experience whether on the dancefloor or in your earbuds. “Looking for a New Love” is an instrumental version of the big hit and as expected, APS takes big liberties with this one. Ethan White (Tortured Soul) riffs effortlessly on the verse we all know and love, while JKriv (Escort, Razor-N-Tape) skillfully re-interprets the bassline with an irresistible funk. Jonathan Powell, who has been cutting with Eddie Palmieri’s big band brings the tune to a fever pitch with the chops of a seasoned Salsa virtuoso, whilst never losing the relentless groove.

Side B is a stripped down, dirty, bass heavy, live, analog dub. A sweaty, up close and personal dub that is just what the DJ ordered. You can literally hear the wheels of the tape delay spinning and almost smell the vacuum tubes sizzling.

The Analog Players Society is a collective effort spearheaded and produced by Amon, featuring a large ensemble cast of musicians hanging around the studio, the likes of which read like a who’s who list of the wide-open Brooklyn music scene as it stands today. Players from such heavyweights as TV On The Radio, Tortured Soul, Escort, Beirut, Si*Se, Blitz the Ambassador and Akoya Afrobeat Ensemble make up the core of the project, which is eclectic by nature but carries serious strains of the Dub, Funk, Afrobeat, and Soul variety within it. The Analog Players Society vibe is about making people dance even if the power goes out – getting rugged and raw with drums, stand-up bass, piano, and horns…or at least doing it all without a laptop on the stage.
